Why Snoopy Means So Much To Yan Elliott
The VCCP creative outlines why and how a little figurine of the iconic Peanuts character keeps him creatively disciplined

This little chap is with me for life. I have made a pledge; Never will he be thrown away or donated to a charity shop.
Why?
From the moment I clapped eyes on him I fell in love with him. Such a silly thing. On that level alone he brings me pure joy.
Beyond that, he represents much more. He gives me daily prompts and reminders on how best to approach my working life….
Be minimal. It's a master class in a simple joke. You are given all the information here. Keep it simple.
It just is. Or put another way ‘Some things just are’. It inexplicably makes me laugh. I can’t put my finger on it exactly why but it reminds me that some things just work. Don’t over think it.
We should Play more. As creatives, we should bring a child-like approach to the things we are asked to do. That’s not to say we shouldn’t be serious with our intent. We should. But that can come in the thinking. The execution should bring some magic, some lightness of touch.
Bring yourself to work. Someone brought themselves to work when they put this concept on the table. All credit to the team that said; “Yes, what a stupidly, wonderful idea. Let’s make it happen”. But don’t underestimate the power of individual thinking. The point of an outstanding creative is that you don't think like everyone else, or any machine for that matter, and that is why we are here.
And finally, as our world and marketing environment seem to get tougher and more serious, my advice is not to laugh off the light-hearted. There is valuable depth in the seemingly puerile.
